Are There Health Risks To Eating GMO’s?


According to the scientists who speak on behalf of Monsanto, a big producer of GMOs, they are safe and effective and are basically the same as non- GMO products. But independent scientists and medical doctors who have investigated GMOs and according to Monsanto’s own internal documents, they are anything but safe.

 

Early on, Dr. Gilles-Eric Seralini, a French molecular biologist who studies the health effects of GMOs discovered that feeding lab rats GMO corn produced tumors, only to be attacked and discredited. A report from The Pulse of Natural Health Newsletter in 2015 states that he recently won two court cases against those who had sought to ruin his reputation after he published a study that linked GMO corn to cancer in rats. A French court had found that fraud and defamation were employed to discredit his study.

 

Since then, numerous scientific studies have confirmed that there are many health problems associated with consuming GMOs and the associated Roundup herbicide that is sprayed on GMO crops that are engineered to be “Roundup Ready”. The “active ingredient” is which causes cancer in lab animals and was found to be a human carcinogen in California.


Regulators evaluate the safety of a pesticide or herbicide mainly by looking at the “active ingredient” – such as glyphosate – while commercial versions of pesticides contain other adjuvants that may be kept confidential by industry.

 

The EPA requires that only the active ingredients be studied for medium and long term toxicity. Companies are not required to list inert ingredients on most pesticide labels.


However, Professor Giles-Eric Seralini has now found that other, supposedly “inert” ingredients associated with Roundup are even more dangerous than its primary toxin glyphosate. The work of Prof. Seralini and his colleagues shows just how dangerous these pesticide adjuvants can be. The team found that eight out of the nine pesticides tested were up to 1,000 times more toxic to human cells than just the “active ingredient” glyphosate.


The authors of the study conclude that the distinction by regulators at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) between active ingredients and “declared inert” compounds is “a regulatory assumption with no toxicological basis.”

 

This represents a massive failure on the part of the EPA to hold industry accountable to even basic standards of safety. The fact that so little is known about the safety of inert ingredients for human health is a scandal.

What are the health problems associated with the consumption of GMOs?

 

Roundup is a hormone disruptor. In 1982 there were 42 fertility clinics in the United States. After the introduction of GMOs in the 1990s, as of 2015 there were 440!

 

Glyphosate is an antibiotic. It kills good bacteria in the gut that maintain tight junctions of the gut lining leading to “leaky gut”, and produce vitamins and “feel good” neurotransmitters (90% of serotonin) that prevent depression and anxiety.

 

David Perlmutter M.D. author of Grain Brain and Brain Maker says “Alzheimers, Parkinson’s, Autism, Multiple Sclerosis are all inflammatory conditions of the brain and it’s the bacteria in the gut that regulates inflammation and these are the bacteria that are damaged when they are exposed to glyphosate.”

 

This causes an overgrowth of “bad” bacteria that can lead to gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, heart disease, and many other serious health issues. (Medicine now embraces the notion that the gut bacteria plays a pivotal role in determining whether you are fat or lean!)


The Institute for Responsible Technology surveyed more than 3,200 people who reported health improvement after switching to non- GMO products. By far the # 1 symptom improvement was digestive problems.

A film I like to show in the health classes I teach is “Secret Ingredients” produced in 2018. It features a family of two marathoners and their 3 kids who “made conscious decision every day to live a healthy lifestyle” and yet became very sick. The wife, Kathleen, eventually ended up in a wheel chair disabled. Her husband, Stephen, had a breast tumor and mineral deficiencies, Stephen, age 4, had autism, digestive disorders, language disorder, selective mutism, hypersensitivity, skin conditions, and sensory processing disorder. Camden, age 2, had severe asthma, chronic bronchitis, abdominal bloating, irritability, mood swings, and rashes. Treyson, age 6 months, had severe rashes (head to toes), eczema, and allergies. When Treyson had an anaphylactic reaction from eating a peanut, they removed all peanuts and peanut products from their house. She thought – “Why are we so willing to remove foods that can cause an anaphylactic reaction but we are not willing to remove foods that cause chronic diseases and a slow death?” That’s when she decided to NEVER bring food into her house that didn’t contribute to health.


Within weeks and months of eliminating GMOs and Roundup sprayed foods (going to

organic foods) the health of Kathleen and Stephen’s family returned. Kathleen completely recovered from her disability and her children and husband ‘s illnesses disappeared.


Ayn Rand, author of Atlas Shrugged, stated “It is a moral sin to participate in your own self destruction”. Its your body, its your health, its your choice. Just say NO to GMO.
